In industrial settings in which filtration is performed, the extrusion processes are highly valued, and the screens and filters used are a must. If you are new to investing in extruder screens or extruder filters, you may come across a few terms that you do not understand fully. Here is a closer look at some of the attributes you do need to understand when shopping for extruder filters or screens. 

Pleated Filters 

Pleated filters or pleated screens have pleats or folds that essentially triple the filtration action of each piece. Pleated units can be more expensive, but if you have an application that requires very specific levels of filtration, they are worth the investment. 

Ultrasonically Washed 

If you buy filters or screens that have been ultrasonically washed, you are getting units that have been aptly cleaned after being sent in for recycling. Ultrasonic cleaning involves high-frequency wavelengths sent through a cleaning solution to eliminate any remaining particles inside of the unit. Therefore, it is very effective at removing even the smallest microns, and the ultrasonically washed units are as good as new. 

Coated Aluminum 

Extruder filters or screens can be purchased that have frames, and these frames can be made out of a variety of materials, such as steel or copper. However, if you come across a set of filters or screens that have coated aluminum frames, it means the frames are made out of aluminum that has been coated with some other material or compound to protect the aluminum or to protect the product from contact with the aluminum. 

Increased Pack Life 

Increase pack life is something you will see associated with screens or filters that have certain attributes that will allow the pack to last longer than usual. Increased pack life is always a good attribute to look for because it means you will get more use for the money you spend. Some of the companies that follow some of the best construction methods will almost always place this attribute on their units. 

Sintered Fiber 

Sinter fiber extruder screens are ideal for applications that require the filtration of microscopic microns. The material is made out of a certain form of compressed fibers that looks a lot like felt but is actually metallic. Extruder screens with sintered fibers are highly capable of filtering even the tiniest particles, but they do require high-pressure application to push materials through the screen.
